About that Black and White

So, black and white photography. It's never really been my thing. I'm in love with colors. The HSL sliders in Lightroom are my playground! Color is what drove me to the XE-1, Fujifilm's passion for color is legendary, and I have yet to be disappointed.

I've seen amazing B&W, but never my own. Everything I convert to monochrome just looks like something I processed in high school darkroom class. Yes, I know, you don't just "convert to monochrome," I've tried, over and over again, really I have. But to me, there was always something missing in my B&W's. But here, in this set, something comes alive in the Black and White. After so many years poking at photography, this set suddenly clicked for me.

I should introduce you... This is Kyra, a sweet high school gal. We captured a quick portrait set for her senior photos, walking around the Oregon State Capitol grounds during the evening light. These were taken with a very simple kit - Fujifilm's silky 60mm f/2.4 mounted to my Fujifilm X-E1, with two Yongnuo's mounted in a Rapid Box Duo for lighting assist.

Of course, the color shots are quite lovely as well.

But there's just something about these Black and White's that really draws me in. I think I might just be falling a bit for monochrome.
